I WAS A DANCER

I WAS A DANCER
“Who am I? I’m a man; an American, a father, a teacher, but most of all, I am a person who knows how the arts can change lives, because they transformed mine. I was a dancer.”

On The Road Again With Jacques

From high above the ground I come to you, headed westward to California and the Pacific Northwest. The great city of San Francisco awaits, followed by the Entertainment Gathering in Monterey. I can smell the ocean already and feel the magnificent calm of her grace even from this altitude.

While the New England leg of the book tour was rather harried, this next trip offers a little more breathing room and Jacques and I are ambitious to generate this blog again after a long silence. I plan to photo document Jacques every step of the way and will share with you our journey in words as well as photos.

This site is not interested in promoting the book (I trust you already have it) or telling you about the NDI gala or the upcoming Event of the Year. No. We are here now on the subject of ART! All Art. Only Art. Art, the blessed elixir. Art, my oldest friend.

So let's start here: It is National Poetry Month. Sigh. I feel better already.
Here is the poem for April 5th:

Enough
by Jeffrey Harrison

It's a gift, this cloudless November morning
warm enough for you to walk without a jacket
along your favorite path. The rhythmic shushing
of your feet through fallen leaves should be
enough to quiet the mind, so it surprises you
when you catch yourself telling off your boss
for a decade of accumulated injustices,
all the things you've never said circling inside you.

It's the rising wind that pulls you out of it,
and you look up to see a cloud of leaves
swirling in sunlight, flickering against the blue
and rising above the treetops, as if the whole day
were sighing, Let it go, let it go,
for this moment at least, let it all go.

So nice.

Peace to one and all. We are looking oh quite forward to this conversation.

Tamara (assistant to the Champ)
